Rose Paving Co.

Ideally, you'd have a member of your sales team available on-demand whenever a customer was interested in your service, right? Well, in essence, that is exactly what this project was all about.

The project

In 2005, Chicago-based Rose Paving Co. was looking for a way to broadcast their services to a wider audience. A way to show property and facility managers exactly what they are capable of--without having to double their salesforce.

With recently produced videos and loads of on-the-job photos, I worked with Jessica Bordelon, Director of Marketing, to put together a cd-rom that combined video, audio and animation to communicate their message. Jessica had a clear vision for this project - in fact, as an accomplished designer, she provided me with the interface design and storyboards for the animations. It was up to me to bring it all together into an easy to use application.

Behind-the-scenes

As always, time was a factor in this project, so choosing the right tools for the job was essential. I chose Macromedia Director as the base platform based on past projects involving video - I knew I could depend on it. Macromedia Flash was chosen for the animations and audio. The combination of Director and Flash worked together seamlessly.

The results

Upon release, the cd was viewed as a success, but I've been around enough to know that it is the long-term that counts for projects like this. I followed up with Jessica a year after launch, and this is what she had to say:

  • In one year after posting, CD-Rom requests accounted
    for 25% of all online leads
  • We have received numerous compliments on its
    functionality, ease-of-use, and content
  • We offer this item as a hand-out at all regional and national tradeshows; attendees love it because it is compact and comprehensive at the same time
